Read LessThis training introduces CIPOS as a structured intervention that expands a client’s capacity for dual awareness and reduces the intensity of trauma material prior to reprocessing. Participants will learn to recognize when CIPOS is indicated, how to guide clients through controlled exposure and present-time orientation, and how to integrate the method into EMDR’s preparation phase. After completing this training, participants will be able to:
Describe the purpose of CIPOS within Phase 2 preparation.
Identify clients who benefit from CIPOS, including those vulnerable to dissociative abreaction.
Teach clients to maintain dual awareness during brief exposure to traumatic material.
Use the Back of the Head Scale (BHS) to assess present-time safety.

This training provides 2 clinical continuing education credits / 2 contact hours. To receive a certificate of completion and CE credit, participants must complete all course modules, pass the post-test with a score of 75% or higher (participants may retake the post-test as needed to achieve a passing score), and complete the course evaluation.
Format: Recorded, self-paced on-demand training (noninteractive distance learning), hosted on the Thinkific platform.
Access period: Course content and materials are available to registered participants for 90 days from the date of registration. All course requirements must be completed within this 90-day access period to receive CE credit.
Certificate delivery: Upon completion of all requirements, your certificate of completion is generated automatically and is immediately available to download through the Thinkific platform.

This is an advanced-level training designed for licensed and pre-licensed mental health professionals — including social workers, psychologists, and mental health counselors — who have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training and work with dissociative or highly reactive clients.
This program is open only to clinicians who have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training. Please note that this training is not an EMDR Basic Training. Attendees who are only partially trained in EMDR are not eligible to receive EMDRIA Credits.
Manhattan Center for Trauma Studies, ACE Provider #2256, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 7/9/2026–7/9/2027. Social workers completing this course receive 2 clinical continuing education credits.
ASWB ACE approval is accepted by most, but not all, jurisdictions. Social workers are responsible for confirming that their regulatory board accepts ACE-approved continuing education. ACE approval is not accepted in New York or New Jersey; New York social workers are covered under the New York State approval below.
